Feliz Navidad! This year I was not able to be at home for Christmas… but God allowed me to spent Christmas in my “home away from home”. I spent it with the Bresson family who are like my real family and they definitely made me feel at home. The 24th we had dinner at “Chooie’s” (my friend’s grandma) house… it was great! Food, friends, and family; what else could I asked for?
Right after dinner, I was able to talk to the majority of my family down in Mexico and that made my day. Praise God for technology! I was able to call them through Skype and that made it a lot easier than calling cards (I wish I could get paid for this commercial) This was my second Christmas with the Bressons and my first real white Christmas, and man it was white! We had about 13” of snow!! The cold is not the same for me anymore… I think I’m becoming use to it, but I really miss the “cold” of Mexico (40-50°F)… I can’t wait to go back to it.
After dinner we had a time to remember the first Christmas and we read from the gospel of Luke. In the second chapter of his gospel, Dr. Luke shares the words of the angel that appeared to the shepherds: “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:10-11 NIV) The Nation of Israel were waiting for the coming of the Messiah, a redeemer… God sent his Son, the Messiah that they were waiting for! He sent Jesus to bring salvation, hope and eternal life.
I hope you will never forget the true meaning of Christmas… it’s kind of funny how much importance people put into giving and receiving presents this time of the year. You know what? God started a long time ago, and he started with the biggest gift of His-story… he gave us his own SON, Jesus Christ the LORD as a gift of salvation. My prayer is that this 2009 will be a year filled with blessings and opportunities to share with others the good news of salvation.
May the LORD bless you!
